Istituto dell’Odore Litania d’Incenso (Extrait de Parfum) evokes the serenity of cold marble and the quiet presence of time standing still through the interplay of incense. At the heart of its inspiration are those moments when movement seems to cease and the surrounding world takes on unusually sharp contours: faint light, dust, an empty space preserving the echoes of sound. Federica Castellani’s photographs taken on the Po Plain helped give visual form to this concept. Through its atmosphere, the fragrance approaches a state of contemplation, allowing the incense to take on an almost architectural quality.

Litania d’Incenso opens with the aromatic bitterness of artemisia, accompanied by birch, cade oil, and a pinch of cinnamon. Incense takes center stage, enveloped by iris, cashmeran, and ambrocenide, which evoke contrasting impressions of powder, texture, and a dry, woody radiance. Myrrh, benzoin, elemi, gurjun balsam, and labdanum form a complex, resinous base. Oud, cedarwood, and amyris deepen the structure, while the accord of musk, costus, and castoreum creates a more intimate nuance beneath the austere surface. The fragrance maintains an exciting tension between the multitude of ingredients and the cool, still image they are meant to evoke.

Istituto dell’Odore is a collaborative project by Meo Fusciuni and Federica Castellani. Its fragrances are built around ingredients capable of evoking memories from different lives. The difference from Meo Fusciuni’s original brand is that it has shifted from a personal autobiography toward a collectively created archive of shared experiences.
