Description

Hiram Green Lustre is a deceptively simple and elegant soliflore perfume. Rose may dominate this luminous scent from beginning to end but Gertrude Stein’s famous quote, ‘a rose is a rose is a rose’ does not apply here. The perfume opens with a rose that is the kind of rose that is moist and mature to the point of decadence. The scent, however, seems to unfold in defiance of the laws of nature as the rich, ripe sweetness of real petals in majestic decay give way to the sunlit purity of rose in full bloom. The olfactory equivalent of watching a timelapse video in reverse, the fragrance becomes more youthful as it progresses with citrus notes bringing the crisp freshness of a dewy blossom glistening in early summer rain. Precious orris butter holds the perfume together in a tenacious floral embrace. The ephemeral beauty of a flower’s life cycle in one sublime scent.
