Description

Mendittorosa Osang Extrait de Parfum is an ode to the miracle of San Gennaro, an annual event in which phials of the saint’s dried blood inexplicably liquify. The niche perfume is a scent-based celebration of saints and superstitions, centred around a rich fenugreek absolute adorned with the gilded almond notes of heliotrope and meadow flowers. Osang’s heart is heady with incense as sacrificial myrrh sways somberly between the lavish effect of pyrazines (amazing synths which conjure up an enticing smoky woodiness). All this while mournful, molten honey pours over everything like amber rain. The stern base is laden with some sacramental staples as sticky dark resins, pungent balms and incense ring out in churchy melodrama.

Mendittorosa Osang Extrait de Parfum is the first from the house’s beloved ‘Talismans’ collection. Containing a whopping 30% fragrance compounds, Osang counts among some of the most luxurious perfumes available. In line with Rainer Maria Rilke’s quote, ‘all the soarings of my mind begin in my blood’, Osang is a meditation on the connection between the physical and the metaphysical. A perfume of darkness and cindered skies that slowly explodes into delirious, mysterious light, a talisman of blood, seething with shadows and burning magic. Osang is a supernatural and holy liquefaction in the form of a niche perfume. From inertia to bubbling resurrection, this otherworldly scent is a celebration of metamorphosis and protection – a miracle of scented love and an indelible prayer for skin.

Osang is presented in a luxurious handmade ‘Talismans’ case. Osang’s renowned golden ecclesiastical cap has been handcrafted after Saint Genaro’s own, by Tuscan sculptor Alessandro Reggioli. A small Neapolitan tapestry studio hand-crafted the delicate tassel that adorns the French made bottle. For a true Naples touch, each bottle contains a little horn fashioned from original red coral – the city’s symbolic gemstone and bringer of good fortune.
