Naomi Goodsir Or du Sérail Eau de Parfum is a voluptuous oriental amber niche perfume dripping in honey, sweet fruits and tobacco. In English ‘sérail’ translates as ‘seraglio’ and denotes the private courts in an Ottoman Palace used by the Sultan and his private concubines. Fittingly, Or du Sérail’s top notes seem to transport niche perfume lovers into the inner chambers of an exotic harem. As if piled high on a silver platter, mango, orange and juicy berries ooze forth with the sensual decadence of the ripest fruits.

Or du Sérail is sweet, rich and waxy, playfully reveling in images of greed and excess. The scent’s lavishness makes it perfect for lovers of luxury. Like forbidden fruits yielding their precious sap, the glossy sheen of ripe flesh and berries thickens into a luscious honeyed heart. The texture is layered, rich and chewy, while delicate floral notes float like ribbons of sunlight in the summer air.

Despite the delicious list of ingredients, Or du Sérail is not a true gourmand blend. The fruits and honey are smoothed over by warm, sweet tobacco, while a generous vanilla note leaves a golden, slightly smoky trail. At its base Or du Sérail radiates a warm, sweet amber facet, while the intimate aroma of musk echoes the sultry sexuality of another, more evocative, time and place.
