In the classic 1001 Nights, Shahryar is the Persian King of kings with such a deep distrust in women, he marries a new bride each day before executing her the next morning. That is until he meets the beguiling Scheherezade, who ends each bedtime story with a cliffhanger, thus ensuring she can survive another day. So engrossing are her stories, by the 1001st Shahryar is so smitten he permits her to live.

The story of Shahryar and Scheherezade is an undeniably strange sort of love story. Similarly, Rania J’s Shah’ryar Extrait de Parfum is a darker than dark romance featuring an array of mysterious ingredients plucked right from the Arabian Nights. Rania J Shah’ryar perfume initially lures us into its seductive narrative with hints of bergamot, osmanthus and caramel. This brief, bright opening glows like enticing delicacies served up on shimmering golden platters. Rich and chewy labdanum and thick plum are densely textured – showcasing the shadowy underside of olfactive luxuries. Shah’ryar seems almost tantalizingly tangible, yet it always escapes complete consumption. It leaves us wanting more.

Warm notes of vanilla and sandalwood call us deeper into the sensual experience.
Yet only at its most intimate core does Rania J Shah’ryar finally release its woody resinous heat. In the base, real oud reigns supreme and highlights the royal DNA beating within Shah’ryar. In true Rania J style, however, it is perfectly balanced by honeyed notes of hay, beeswax and musk.

Shah’ryar is a dance of the veils that entices and dares us to explore, to feel, to learn, to touch and to taste the indulgent mysteries of the Orient. It is a celebration of the powerful place between love and longing, where desire leads us ever on, but is never truly fulfilled.
