Rivendare Death By Vanity (Eau de Parfum) won the Best Perfume Prize in the Artisan Category at the Art and Olfaction Awards in 2026!
Death By Vanity is a white powdery perfume that pays homage to the ideal of beauty in Tudor-era England, when the pursuit of beauty, which knew no bounds, not only required suffering but demanded concrete sacrifices. Hydroxide tonics, mercury lipstick, lead-based foundation, all inconceivable by today’s standards.
In the salons of the era, flawless skin was a symbol of social status, refinement, and power. To achieve the coveted alabaster glow, women used Venetian Ceruse, a famous lead containing powder prized for its flawless coverage of the complexion, for which they paid a staggering price. Beneath the surface of elegance lay a dangerous ritual that claimed the lives of aristocrats and even queens. Death By Vanity pays homage to these tragic icons, capturing the intoxicating allure of beauty that transcends the bounds of common sense.
Rivendare Death By Vanity opens with the refined radiance of rosewood and heliotrope. Rosewood lends a refined floral-woody radiance, while heliotrope exudes a characteristic powdery softness reminiscent of silk gloves, ivory dressing tables, and clouds of cosmetic powder floating in candlelight. As the fragrance unfolds, coumarin lends a velvety warmth that deepens the scent, while civet adds a subtle animalic richness, evoking the sensual magic of vintage perfumery.
The true soul of Death By Vanity unfolds in the drydown. Soft musks blend delicately with green oakmoss, creating a divine chypre-like structure that is both timeless and hauntingly beautiful. Powdery, elegant, and quietly decadent, Death By Vanity is like a forgotten portrait preserved in a golden frame, a beautiful reminder that throughout history, the pursuit of perfection has often come at a fatal price.
