Quartana Parfums Ierofante is a spacey suede amber perfume infused with narcotic gasoline that seeps into a deep and resinous base – an extraterrestrial fantasy for future lovers. Have you ever wanted to smell like gourmand gasoline? Ierofante is the scent of heady rocket fuel good enough to eat. In fact, it is a perfume about which one could say any number of surprising statements, yet none truly captures the indescribably addictive effect of being in its presence. Quartana Parfums Ierofante entices by being always just on the cusp of revealing a bigger meaning.

Top notes are a cosmic revelation. Takeoff features a clean slick of rocket fuel and a sprinkling of golden amber spacedust in the form of warm spices. Nutmeg is strewn over soft suede making the perfume’s opening as comforting as it is otherworldly. Sweet and balsamic Styrax pyrogene gives resiny depth and texture to contrast and sustain the inebriating thrust of fumes that lifts us upwards and onwards. Yet the smoky pyrogene and notes of smoked leather are subtle components of the whole and do not dominate, achieving a gasoline note that is more liquid fuel than burnt smoke.

Quartana Parfums Ierofante is not always loud, sometimes retreating into the background so we can contemplate its mysteries. After giving us reprieve it launches back into focus with a sweet, narcotic ambery-ness – molten and golden like high-tech honeyed ambrosia, while all the time humming with the airy, polish-like notes of squeaky clean gasoline. A sparkling, intoxicating perfume that makes for addictive wrist sniffing.

The name Ierofante comes from Italian via late Latin from Greek hierophantēs, ⁠from hieros ‘sacred’ + phainein ‘reveal’⁠.

The hierophants in ancient Greece were the guardians of the sacred Eleusinian Mysteries. These mysterious rites, held once a year in honour of Demeter and her daughter Persephone were based on an ancient agrarian cult and involved visions and conjuring the afterlife. Some believe that participants inhaled mood-altering vapours to achieve these transformative states. Ierofante is an olfactive hierophant, a keyholder and guide to an unforgettable sensory trip.
