SIAM1928 Suk Jai (Eau de Parfum) is an unexpectedly elegant, green gourmand and musky perfume that captures the Thai tradition of sharing meals around a table-top grill. Suk Jai was created by perfumer Nutt Wesshasartar in collaboration with Bar B Q Plaza, a Thai barbecue restaurant chain. The fragrance is not so much about the food itself as it is about the happiness that surrounds it. The slowly grilling vegetables, the bowls passed around the table, the sauces, and the conversations and laughter among family and friends. The perfume’s name, Suk Jai (สุขใจ), means happiness or contentment, while also playfully referencing the Thai word “sook,” which means “cooked.” The perfume doesn’t evoke smoke, charcoal, or grilled meat, but rather the excitement of anticipation, warmth, and a sense of togetherness.

Suk Jai’s opening is wonderfully unusual: green cabbage appears crisp, juicy, and vibrantly vegetal, enhanced by the cool green scent of violet leaves and the dry, peppery kick of black pepper. As the scent warms up, the freshly cut cabbage seems to soften and become enveloped in steam. At the heart, a soybean accord reinterprets Bar B Q Plaza’s signature sauce, not with literal culinary elements, but with soft, subtly salty, and slightly creamy nuances. Carrot seed and coriander seed bring an earthy, aromatic spiciness, tying the freshness of the vegetables to a warmer, more tangible base note. Finally, white musk and sandalwood settle close to the skin, clean, gentle, and quietly soothing. It’s like the lingering afterglow of a joyful meal, still palpable even as the table begins to clear.

Siam1928 Suk Jai is for adventurous fragrance enthusiasts who appreciate conceptual perfumery that remains genuinely wearable. Playful without seeming novel, distinctly Thai without relying on familiar clichés, and a stunning example of Nutt Wesshasartar’s ability to transform culture and memories into a scent narrative.
