Naomi Goodsir Corpus Equus Eau de Parfum is a dark and smokey leather fragrance inspired by the animalic intensity of a thoroughbred. Like the wild soul of a gallant steed restrained by man’s tight leather reins, Corpus Equus has a savage elegance.

Corpus Equus, the body of the horse, captures the body heat of a lithe, muscular racehorse mid-steeplechase. The opening exudes a deep black animalism that drives this broody beast forward. However, the wild intensity is tamed and framed by assertive notes of leather. Complex and multifaceted, Corpus Equus’ leather facets combine the beefy gloss of tanned leather with the ashen dryness of suede – the perfume equivalent of raw horsehide and riding gear. These leathered layers evoke a multitude of textural and sensorial associations – the creak of taut straps, the pull of harness against chiselled loins, the feel of a worn saddle.

Through its evocation of riding crops and boots, Corpus Equus not only illustrates the complex interrelations between horse and human, it also symbolically engages with the power dynamics of bondage and fetishism. This is a niche perfume about serious sexuality. Grown up and not at all a roleplay game, Corpus Equus is an eroticism to be embodied. As the dominating leather notes become one with the skin, Corpus Equus gains a sense of genteel sophistication in a smokey tobacco note that feels rounded and addictively decadent.

Just like the horse, the rose has been obsessively bred and optimized by man over the centuries to fulfill his aesthetic desires. The rose’s clean florality contrasts the tannic leather ashiness, producing a refined soapy facet. Here Corpus Equus reveals the kind of immaculate, stream-lined beauty that arises from discipline and good breeding.

Corpus Equus Eau de Parfum is a niche perfume about nature bridled by man. It is an homage to the haunting nobility of a purebred horse.
