Renier Perfumes Behique Extrait de Parfum is an intoxicatingly green and earthy niche perfume featuring heady notes of herbal cannabis, Haitan vetiver, tobacco and rum. Behique’s initial impression has the quality of a pipe dream, a hallucination of a scent almost dreamed into existence. The opening is immersive as it forms an ethereal olfactory effect laced with a beautifully clean cannabis note. This skillfully blended perfume explores crisp and green herbs and grasses rather than the pungency of a smoked spliff. Tobacco flower, sage and basil add to the raw and natural green facets. The blurry contours between the herbaceous and the woodsy are tested by a robust heart of vetiver and sandalwood which is at once fresh and woody. The tiniest trace of aniseed’s aromatic sweetness takes the edge of Behique’s masculine seriousness, making it work as a unisex fragrance. As the perfume dries down, an expanding fulcrum of Haitian vetiver absolute, tobacco and cashmeran wood revolves around the skin in its mystical orbit. A lingering note of seductive rum ties together the fragrance, turning it into a magical elixir with its warm-spiced embrace.

Renier Perfumes Behique Extrait de Parfum is part of the brand’s Taino collection, inspired by the indiginous people of the Caribbean. Behique in particular is an olfactory exploration of the new-world mysticism practiced by these pre-Columbian tribes in what is present day Cuba. The word Behique itself denotes the revered Taino shaman or spiritual leader. The most oneiric of Renier perfumes, Behique celebrates being in a state of ritual trance and attempts to recreate the scent of an experienced and wise spiritual wizard in full communion with nature. The perfume was created by the scent sorcery of renowned niche perfumer Christian Carbonnel (Kajal, Masque Milano, Xerjoff, Zoologist Pefumes) and, as an Extrait de Parfum, is a perfumed potion of the highest quality and potency.
